Description
Have you ever walked out of an open mic
event at night and not felt safe? Have you ever gone to a book
signing and had to walk to your car in the dark? Have you ever been
in a strange city and felt someone’s eyes on you? Have you ever been
in a situation where you felt uncomfortable and afraid that you might
be attacked? Have you ever sent your daughter or son to school or
college and wondered if they would be safe? If so, you are not alone.
According to the FBI
preliminary report for 2008 crime statistics, Saint Louis had 3,507
violent crimes. Eighty-six of these crimes were murders, 117 were
forcible rapes, and 2,060 were aggravated assaults. When it comes to
rape and sexual assault, it is estimated that 1 in 5 girls and 1 in 7
boys will be sexually assaulted before they reach adulthood and 1 in 6
adult women and 1 in 33 adult men will experience an attempted sexual
assault! Do you know what to do to protect yourself?
Most people have no
idea and the results are devastating. The nightmares of any assault,
especially of rape, can last a life time.
“Self Defense and Real Life
Physical Conflict for The Writer,” taught by David Alan Lucas, Nidan
(Second Degree Black Belt), in this workshop, which
will explore the truth of violence, how to relate it in your stories,
and how to protect yourself—no matter your age, sex, or size—in a
practical manner. Do you walk with a cane? GOOD!!! You will learn
how you are the more dangerous than almost any attacker. Do you have
a pen or pencil? GOOD!!! You will learn how the pen is truly
mightier than the sword in a way most never think of.
David Alan Lucas has
studied multiple styles of martial arts for 31 years and is Nidan in
Chinese Kenpo.
