Knight Captain Mori Fukuro is a man dedicated to his career, but that career has hit a major obstacle. Fukuro was formerly a Fixer for the Order of the Knight Owls (OKO), the OKO’s “fire brigade” that take care of special and highly sensitive covert actions. On his last mission, he was shot in the back and had his spine severed. In the story universe, this injury could have been repaired if he had not been in a space suit and zero-g at the time and he had been able to get medical help sooner. As a result, he is now a paraplegic. He has lost his career as a Fixer in the OKO. Because of his physical limitations, the OKO has assigned him to become the Chief of Station on a small space habitat in the Karin Cluster—a region of space that has been torn apart by the political struggle or the Great Game of national powers in the solar system.

While Mori Fukuro might feel that he could begin a new career and a new life, the truth of his posting does not go unnoticed. The space habitat is a “banishment posting”, a posting where the less than competent are sent so they can’t do much harm while they ride out the end of their career. To a man like Mori Fukuro, his career is his life and he fights to prove himself in what is considered the worst posting in the Imperial Democratic Sovereignty.

It is my plant  to return to Live Streaming the writing as I dictate the first draft using Dragon sometime this month. .

There are two philosophies I do my best to follow when I write. The first was best expressed by Randy Pausch in The Last Lecture, “Do not tell people how to live their lives. Just tell them stories. And they will figure out how those stories apply to them.”

The other philosophy is that every character is the hero of their own story. This philosophy is driving me right now as I rework the plot. I have the main plot, think of it as the main threads on a loom, complete. I am now weaving the threads of the character’s plots with the main plot. There are eight characters whose plots are being interwoven and each of them see themselves as heroes of the story. In the upcoming communique I will introduce each of them to you in more detail, but for now, allow me to do a brief introduction:

• Mori Fukuro: A former “Fixer” in the Order of the Knight Owls, he is now assigned as the Chief of Station for the Order of the Knight Owls on outpost Rebus, located in the Karin Cluster. For clarification, a Chief of Station is often a senior intelligence officer who is the head of a team or post of a foreign space habitat or an outpost habitat on the borders of a nation-fleet. The Order of the Knight Owls is the intelligence agency of the Imperial Democratic Sovereignty.
• Noora El-Abad: The Personal Assistant to the Chief of Station.
• Phoenix Laskanis: An operative of the Order of the Knight Owls assigned to Rebus. She is determined one day to join the elite “fire brigade” known as “Fixer.”
• Leon Knight: A Brigadier General in the Imperial Democratic Sovereignty’s Marines and the Governor General of outpost Rebus.
• Xemena Winston: Commodore in the Imperial Democratic Sovereignty’s Space Navy and is responsible for security and defense of the trade routes and space around Rebus Station in the Karin Cluster.
• Kutlay Jiang: Is a Khanum of the Karin Cluster, who follows a strange new religion and is determined to reunite the outposts and space stations of the Karin Cluster into a nation again. The Karin Cluster, once united, has been, in her eyes, torn apart by the political games of the People’s Union and the Imperial Democratic Sovereignty.
• Taygun Zhan: Kutlay Jiang’s right hand and attack dog.
• Zigfrids Nankani: An operative of the People’s Union Guard sent on an assignment to supply Kutlay Jiang with arms in trade for an alliance with the People’s Union that would make the Karin Cluster a satellite in the sphere of influence.

For reference, The Karin cluster is an asteroid family and sub-group of the Koronis family. It consists of at least 90 main-belt asteroids.
